Healthcare Today

Global healthcare challenges today’s decision-makers with unprecedented complex demands. Patients with unmet medical needs require novel therapies while payors require cost-efficiency. Physicians are required to make potentially life-and-death decisions while being ever mindful of malpractice suits. Today’s hospitals and medical centers are redefining the nature of modern healthcare. Legislators, regulators, and policy-makers strive to balance expedient, equal access to standards of care while safeguarding intellectual property to promote risk-taking R&D. Ethical considerations, from corporate scandals to stem-cell research, also underlie these challenges. Such challenges necessitate innovative, disciplined, and collaborative problem-solving. Opportunities abound amidst these challenges for unprecedented solutions and relationship-building in healthcare.

The Healthcare Business Alliance

Georgetown MBA students gain exposure to the healthcare industry from case work in finance, marketing, operations, and strategy.  Healthcare courses specifically designed to hone skill sets and industry knowledge are offered, such as American Healthcare Marketplace and Healthcare Consulting Practicum.  In addition, students may attend healthcare courses throughout the Georgetown’s network of schools and programs.

“Doing business in the healthcare industry has become increasingly complex in the last two decades.  Healthcare consulting, health insurance, medical products, health information technology, biotech, pharmaceutical and genetics firms need strong leaders schooled in the principles of general management combined with a strong understanding of the unique issues facing the health sector in the global marketplace.  Taking advantage of all that Georgetown MBA has to offer, our graduates have a solid foundation and are well positioned to become the next generation of health sector managers.”

-GEORGETOWN MSB DEAN

The Healthcare Business Alliance (HBA) is a student club encompassing all Georgetown MBA students who seek careers in the healthcare sector.  The HBA seeks to develop Georgetown MBAs into well-informed, well-trained, and well-connected leaders at the forefront of global healthcare management.
